Macro projections of micro events - MSM style

Ok this news is tragic. 3 year old kid getting kidnapped is bad and tragic irrespective of the country or social class. What is really funny in that tragic news is how some media folks are analyzing it. Check this hilarious, blown out of proportions commentary by Bill Snyder:

The shocking crime has riveted the attention of Silicon Valley’s large Indian community and is raising concerns that increasing lawlessness on the sub-continent could become a threat to foreign investment

As if this stereotyped comment wasn’t enough he goes on to quote  Wall Street Type who I am sure hasn’t set foot in India in recent years:

The safety of citizens has taken a backseat to fiscal policy and the development of infrastructure. The government has to take a very hard position on this, or it could certainly affect the investment climate.

Now I am  not defending the crime or defending general lawlessness in that part of the world. I am surprised that how these  media professionals tend to connect the dots. These dots are all over the place.

If I extrapolate like them then I will read this news ( The rise of knife culture in UK) as “because of changing demographics and growing Iraq war concerns youth is taking to the knife culture. Gaming companies are excited about the growth prospects in UK”.   Now that may sound funny but I just  connected the popular dots.

Is Google baiting spoiling the story quality?

Update: Eventually kid got rescued.
