Only Oracle Survive

When you are buying companies like there is no tomorrow it can mean only few things. Only paranoid survive philosophy hitting software industry and software industry consolidation has become a goal rather than a prediction.

There will be a fierce battle to get into the developers market. Whoever wins their mind share will have better economy of scale and better geo-positioning. It’s a well known fact that because Oracle DBA job is one of the better paid job so lot of DBAs end up promoting Oracle in their organizations. Why can’t Oracle use the same strategy with JBoss?

Maybe Oracle is trying the same strategy with middleware. Get all the people who are vested in their stack and let them push that stack in their respective organizations. That’s how open source is sold anyways. It gets adopted. Behind adoption lies the strange cocktail of passion, freedom, intellectual fantasies and job market reality.

Even then $200 million is a stretch. Looks like Marc Fleury thinks developers don’t come cheap and Oracle should double that number.
